  1、These portraits, shot for 'The Other Side of War' (National Geographic Society) by Zainab Salbi, document how women have survived brutal conflicts around the globe. The author is the founder and CEO of Women for Women International, a group that helps women rebuild their lives after war. Noted author Alice Walker reads from the preface she wrote for the book.

10、Marie (right), with two of her seven children, worked at a primary school in rural Ngweshe in the Democratic Republic of the Congo before she was kidnapped and forced to be a sex slave. After escaping, she was helped by a local association of women survivors of rape where she volunteers today.
