I like for you to be still

I like for you to be still: it is as through you are absent

and you hear me from far away and my voice does not touch you

It seems as through your eyes had flown away

and it seems that a kiss had sealed your mouth

as all things are filled with my soul

your emerge from the things, fill with my soul

you are like my soul, a butterfly of dreams

and you are like the word melancholy

I like for you to be still, and you seem far away

It sounds as though you are lamenting, a butterfly cooing like a dove

And you hear me from far away, and my voice does not reach you

Let me come to be still in your silence

And let me talk to you with your silence

That is bright like a lamp, simple as a ring

You are like the night, with its stillness and constellations

Your silence is that of a star, as remont and candid

I like for you to be still: it is as though you are absent

distant and dull of sorrow, as though you had died

One word then, one smile, is enough

And I’a happy, happy that’s not true

"Egg Donor Needed. $50,000 Incentive." This is a sample heading from one of the ads that has begun to appear at Ivy League schools such as Yale and Harvard. Although egg donation is not news, those intending to purchase human eggs have now gone beyond requesting a certain eye color to demanding Ivy League degrees. These potential buyers believe that raising the standard of their criteria will bring them a better baby. But does this ambition to purchase a genetic advantage for their children make them bad parents?

Couples who place these ads assume that if a young woman attends an Ivy League school, then she will likely pass on her academic ability to her offspring. This assumption disregards many other factors such as the genetic contribution of the sperm and the determining forces of our environment. Our lives are influenced, but not predetermined by our genes.

One danger of ordering babies like televisions is that parents may have unreasonable expectations of their child. If the child doesn't turn out the way the parents envisioned, how will he or she be treated? Good parents accept their children for whoever they happen to be—not just for attending Yale.

A Lesson Of Life

“everything happens for the best,”my mother said whenever I faced disappointment. "If you can carry on, one day something good will happen. And you'll realize that it wouldn't have happened if not for that previous disappointment."

Mother was right, as I discovered after graduating from college in 1932.I had decided to try for a job in radio, then work my way up to sports announcer. I hitchhiked to Chicago and knocked on the door of every station-and got turned down every time.

In one studio, a kind lady told me that big stations couldn't risk hiring inexperienced person-"Go out in the sticks and find a small station that'll give you a chance,”she said.

I thumbed home to Dixon, Illinois. While them was no radio-announcing jobs in Dixon, my father sad Montgomery Ward had opened a store and wanted a local athlete to manage its sports department. Since Dixon was where I had played high school football, I applied. The job sounded just right for me. But I wasn't hired.

My disappointment must have shown. "Everything happens for the best," Mom reminded me. Dad offered me the car to job hunt. I tried WOC Radio in Davenport, Iowa. The program director, a wonderful Scotsman named Peter MacArthur, told me they had already hired an announcer.

As I left his office, my frustration boiled over. I asked a1oud,"How can a fellow get to be a sport announcer if he can't get a job in a radio station?"

I was waiting for the elevator when I heard MacArthur calling, "What was that you said about sports? Do you know anything about football?"Then he stood me before a microphone and asked me to broadcast an imaginary game.

On my way home, as I have many times since, I thought of my mother's words: "if you carry on, one day something good will happen. Something wouldn't have happened if not for that previous disappointment" I often wonder what direction my life might have taken if I’d gotten the job at Montgomery Ward.

The rabbits who cause all the trouble----

Within the memory of the youngest child there was a family of rabbits who lived behind a pack of wolves. The wolves announced that they did not like the way the rabbits were living. The wolves were crazy about the way they themselves were 1iving,because it was the only way to live.

One night several wolves were killed in an earthquake and this was blamed on the rabbits, for it is well known that rabbits pound on the ground with their hind legs and cause earthquakes. On another night one of the wolves was killed by a bolt of lightning and this was also named on the rabbits, for it is well known that lettuce-eaters cause 1ightning.The wolves threatened to civilize the rabbits if they didn't behave.

The rabbits decided to move away to a desert island. But the animals, who lived at a great distance, shamed them, saying, "You must stay where you are and be brave. There is no world for escapists. If the wolves attack you, we will come to your aid all probability." So the rabbits continued to live near the wolves.

One day them was a terrible flood which drowned a great many wolves. This was blamed on the rabbits, for it is well known that carrot-nibblers with long ear cause floods. The wolves descended on the rabbits, for their own good, and imprisoned them in a dark cave, for their own protection.

When nothing was heard about the rabbits for some weeks, the other animals demands to know what had happened to them. The wolves replied that the rabbits had been eaten and since they had been eaten the affair was a purely internal matter. But the other animals warned that they might possibly unite against the wolves unless some reason was given for the destruction of the rabbits. So the wolves gave them one. “They were trying to escape,” said the wolves, "and, as you know, there is no world for escapists."

Eyeing A Saudi Arabian Prince----

2:00 a.m. in the Arabian desert, the world’s fifth richest man sits alone. A rare moment of tranquility. Who is this man? What is he thinking? Why is he here?

He is His Royal Highness Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, nephew of King Fahd of Saudi Arabia, grandson of the country’s founder, grandson also of the founder of modern day Lebanon. Just 44 years old, his net worth tops $20 billion.

Mostly he lives here in a 460,000 square-foot palace he calls home. Quaint, it isn’t? It’s 317 rooms, include 18 sitting rooms, 15 dinning rooms, 10 bedrooms, 16 pantries, and one dozen elevators. The garage is big, too. It has to be to accommodate the Prince’s hundreds of cars. And this is the Prince’s kitchen – a 30,000 – square – foot facility with enough staff and equipment to feed more than a 1,000 people on any given day. And that’s on top of 20 smaller kitchens scattered throughout the palace. The Prince’s bedroom is large, but his closet is larger. Among other things, it holds his 3,000 pairs of shoes, and hundreds of pairs of sunglasses.

Journalist: Do you think you live lavishly?

Prince: No I don’t think… I live happily. Now, maybe to some people, it’s lavish, I would acknowledge that, but to me, I live happily.

This is the other Prince Alwaleed, a top minded negotiator and international investing sensation whose personal inverstment vehicle, Kingdom Holding Company, owns stakes in a litany of the world’s best known brands. Along side Rupert Murdock and Ted Turner, he’s one of the world’s biggest media tycoons, with shares in A.O.L., Newscorp and Disney, alongside the Marriotts and the Hiltons, a leading hotelier with big chunks of The Four Season, Movenpick, and Fairmont chains as well as New York’s Plaza Hotel and Paris’s George Saint. A giant in banking, too, whose stake in Citygroup alone totals a cool $10 billion.

But for all his wealth, this Saudi Royal still seeks something money can’t buy.

Prince: I believe that we have a mission, you know, to tell the western world held by America for sure, is that the Arabs are good businessmen, good honorable people. And when they communicate and when they do this and business with the biggest companies in America, they are welcome, and they do it very honorably. And if I can contribute in having the image being better and enhanced, of course being more positive in America, I would be more than happy to do it.

A Tour to Barcelona----

Barcelona is regarded as Spain’s second city, behind capital Madrid. The city is steeped in history, Barcelona was founded by Carthaginians and according to tradition, its name was derived from the great Barker family of ancient Carpage. After numerous different conquers, including the Romans and the Moores that ravaged the city, the Argons made Catalonia, of which Barcelona was the capital. Strong and prosperous. Since the 1970s, the city has reasserted its Catalon background. But it wasn’t until the summer Olympics in 1992 did Barcelona became the modern, vibrant city that it still is today. And with this prosperity has come luxury and fabulous hotels. The Raewon Callas the 1st was opened in 1992, by the King and Queen of Spain. It’s situated in the north of the city, near the main University and it’s run by Jose Louise Torres.

With buildings like the Casa Cal Bain and the Casa Minga, Antony Gaudy is credited with making great impact of image of Barcelona. He also built the fantastic Park Quell. Antony Gaudy died in 1926, leaving an unfinished cathedral as his epitaph.

What are the attractions of coming to Barcelona?

There are many, many different attractions: culture, leisure, monuments, our architectures, and the gastronomy. Barcelona has commercial areas, shopping areas of five kilometers that goes around to the sea to the north, and on the street and continue at shop at the same time you find the shops. You see our architecture, you see our monuments, our museums, and our restaurants. So there is a mix between shopping and services.

One label that’s hot among fashion conscious is MIRO, and these trendy designs of clothing and shoes originate in Barcelona. The region itself now produces for other international labels, like for the Gallic giant Lacose.

No visit to the city would be complete without a tour of the Nou Camp, the immense home of one of Spain's finest teams, Barcelona Football Club. FC Barcelona was founded in 1899 along with the other Spanish team, Real Madrid. It’s one of the greatest football teams in Europe. With players like Maradona and Ronaldo having played for Barca, it’s easy to explain their success! FC Barcelona is credited to winning more trophy than any other team in European football history. The stadium, the Nou Camp, can hold one hundred and twelve thousand people, making it one of the greatest places to watch and play “the beautiful game”.

The 4 Wives----

There was a rich merchant who had 4 wives. He loved the 4th wife the most and adorned her with rich robes and treated her to delicacies. He took great care of her and gave her nothing but the best.

He also loved the 3rd wife very much. He’s very proud of her and always wanted to show off her to his friends. However, the merchant is always in great fear that she might run away with some other men.

He too, loved his 2nd wife. She is a very considerate person, always patient and in fact is the merchant’s confidante. Whenever the merchant faced some problems, he always turned to his 2nd wife and she would always help him out and tide him through difficult times.

Now, the merchant’s 1st wife is a very loyal partner and has made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and business as well as taking care of the household. However, the merchant did not love the first wife and although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her.

One day, the merchant fell ill. Before long, he knew that he was going to die soon. He thought of his luxurious life and told himself, “Now I have 4 wives with me. But when I die, I’ll be alone. How lonely I’ll be!”

Thus, he asked the 4th wife, “I loved you most, and owed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I’m dying, will you follow me and keep me company?” “No way!” replied the 4th wife and she walked away without another word.

The answer cut like a sharp knife right into the merchant’s heart. The sad merchant then asked the 3rd wife, “I have loved you so much for all my life. Now that I’m dying, will you follow me and keep me company?” “No!” replied the 3rd wife. “Life is so good over here! I’m going to remarry when you die!” The merchant’s heart sank and turned cold.

He then asked the 2nd wife, “I always turned to you for help and you’ve always helped me out. Now I need your help again. When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?” “I’m sorry, I can’t help you out this time!” replied the 2nd wife. “At the very most, I can only send you to your grave.” The answer came like a bolt of thunder and the merchant was devastated.

Then a voice called out: “I’ll leave with you. I’ll follow you no matter where you go.” The merchant looked up and there was his first wife. She was so skinny, almost like she suffered from malnutrition. Greatly grieved, the merchant said, “I should have taken much better care of you while I could have!”

Actually, we all have 4 wives in our lives

The 4th wife is our body. No matter how much time and effort we lavish in making it look good, it’ll leave us when we die.

Our 3rd wife is our possessions, status and wealth. When we die, they all go to others.

The 2nd wife is our family and friends. No matter how close they had been there for us when we’re alive, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave.

The 1st wife is in fact our soul, often neglected in our pursuit of material, wealth and sensual pleasure.

Guess what? It is actually the only thing that follows us wherever we go. Perhaps it’s a good idea to cultivate and strengthen it now rather than to wait until we’re on our deathbed to lament.

The right way to eat an ice-cream-cone----

Grasp the cone with the right hand firmly but gently between thumb and at least one but not more than three fingers, two-thirds of the way upon the cone. Then dart swiftly away to an open area, away from the jostling crowd at the stand. Now take up the classic ice-cream-cone-eating stance: feet from one to one feet apart, body bent forward from the waist at a twenty-five-degree angle, right elbow well up, right forearm horizontal, at a level with your collarbone and about twelve inches from it.

But don't start eating yet! Check first to see what emergency repairs may be necessary. Sometimes a sugar cone will be so crushed or broken or cracked that all one cm do is gulp at the thing like a savage, getting what he can of it and letting the rest drop to the ground, and then evacuating the area of catastrophe as quickly as possible.

Checking the cone for possible trouble can be done in a second or two, if one knows where to look and does it systematically. A trouble spot some people overlook is the bottom tip of the cone. This may have been broken off. Or the flap of the cone material at the bottom, usually wrapped over itself in that funny spiral construction, may be folded in a way that is imperfect and leaves an opening. No need to say that through this opening-in a matter of perhaps thirty or, at most, ninety seconds-will begin to pour hundreds of thousands of sticky molecules of melted ice cream.

You know in this case then you must instantly get the paper napkin in your left hand under and around the bottom of the cone to stem the forthcoming flow, or else be doomed to eat the cone far too rapidly. It is a grim moment. No one wants to eat a cone under that kind of pressure, but neither does anyone want to end up with the bottom of the cone stuck to a messy napkin.

There's one other alternative-one that takes both skilled and courage: Forgoing any cradling action, grasp the cone more firmly between thumb and forefinger and extend the other fingers so that they are out of the way of the dripping from the bottom, then increase the waist-bend angle from twenty-five to thirty-five degrees, and then eat the cone, allowing it to drip out of the bottom onto the ground in front of you! Experienced and thoughtful cone-eaters enjoy facing up to this kind of sudden challenge.

A Growing Force in Business----

More women than ever are in the workforce, they are starting business at twice the rate of men, and about a third of working women earn more than their spouses. The male oriented world of financial services is taking note.

The number of high net worth women, those with three million dollars or more in investable assets, is growing at nearly double the pace of men in this group, that’s according to a recent survey by Merrill Lynch. How do they do it?

Paying attention to detail is key to Jeanette Nostra’s job. As president of G-III Apparel Group she supervises marketing, merchandizing and product development for the company, keeping close tabs on everyone from division VPs to designers. Her hands-on management style has helped her rise through the ranks at the apparel maker over the past two decades, and her compensation during that ascent ahs contributed to her assets.

Studies show most women with high net worth from Carly Fiorina to Meg Whitman to Andrea Jung, have worked for their fortune rather than inherited it.

As women have become a powerful force in business, many have caught up with men in terms of earning power and assets. In fact, 43 percent of Americans who have over a half a million dollars in assets, are women, and financial services firms are increasingly servicing this high net worth group.

Many of these women have different priorities than men when it comes to managing their money.

A recent Merrill Lynch survey of wealthy women, those with three million dollars or more in investable assets, found nearly all of them work with an advisor or private money manager. Women, are very interested in relationships, feeling comfortable with what they’re doing, getting education about it.

Merrill’s survey showed as they become more educated, wealthy women are interested in tapping into sophisticated investment strategies, like private equity or direct investments. And where wealthy women differ from most men is in their interests in socially responsible investing.
