Safe Water

Hello. I’m Commander Jaunette Smith-George with the U.S. Public Health Service assigned to CDC.
After a hurricane or natural disaster --it is very important that you drink only SAFE water.

To know if the water is safe, listen to public service announcements. Local leaders will tell you if tap water (自来水) is safe to drink or to use for cooking or bathing.

If the water is not safe -- follow local leaders’ instructions.


Use bottled water, boiled water, or disinfected (已消毒的) water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, or bathing. The same goes for all other activities – when you wash the dishes, clean, brush your teeth or wash your hands.


Mothers who are breastfeeding (母乳喂养的) their infants should continue to do so. For FORMULA-FED (用配方奶粉喂养的) infants, use ready-to-feed formula. If ready-to-feed formula is not available, use BOTTLED WATER to prepare powdered or concentrated (浓缩的) formula.

Use boiled water ONLY if bottled water is NOT AVAILABLE. As a last choice, use disinfected water only if boiled water is not available.

To prevent sickness, use only safe water for drinking and other activities.
